State of Humanity

What this is
A globe where anyone can claim pixels on land and paint on them. It is run by one person, reachable at [email protected]. Buying pixels means agreeing to this page.
What a pixel is
A pixel costs 1 $. It is a spot on this globe that the buyer gets to paint and link, for as long as the site is up.
Paying
Stripe takes the payment, in US dollars. The pixels are handed over the moment the payment goes through. No returns.
The purchase link
After paying, the buyer lands on a page with a unique address. There are no accounts or passwords. Anyone who has the address can edit the design until it is locked, so keep it private. If it gets lost, write to the address above with the payment details.
Locking is final
A design can be changed until it is locked. Once locked, it cannot be changed by anyone, not even the buyer. The only exception is removal under the rules below.
How long the globe stays up
Once 100,000 pixels have been bought, the site stays online for at least ten years from that day. If every pixel is bought, the plan is to keep it online for as long as there is an internet. Until then, for as long as is feasible.
The rules
This globe is a snapshot of the world as it is, including the ugly parts. Politics, protest, doom, religion, satire, rivalry and bad jokes stay. As little as possible is removed. What is removed:
- slurs and attacks on people for what they are: race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, gender, sexuality, disability;
- threats, harassment, and personal details of private people;
- sexual or gore imagery;
- content that is a crime to publish, such as child abuse material or incitement to violence;
- scams, malware, stolen work, and anything the payment processor's rules forbid.
Mocking a government, an ideology, a country's football team or the neighbour's flag is fine. Attacking people for being born something is not. Removal takes the whole design off the globe and frees its pixels. The only appeal is the contact address above.
Refunds
A payment is refunded in full if the pixels were taken by someone else before it arrived. A design removed under the rules is not refunded. Everything else is final. Consumer rights that can't be signed away by a page like this still apply.
Charity
10% of every purchase goes to a charity the buyers pick: one pixel, one vote, from a short list, and anyone who bought can suggest a charity. When the vote ends, the whole pot goes to the winner and the receipt is posted on the charity page.
No promises beyond these
The site is provided as it is. Outages happen. If it ever goes down for good, nothing is owed to anyone who bought pixels. The site is not responsible for any loss or damage that comes from using it.
Changes
These terms can change. The date at the top says when they last did.

In short
No accounts, no ads, no trackers, no analytics. Only what the site needs to work is kept, and it is used for nothing else.
What is kept
- A session cookie, so a visit is counted once. It holds no personal information and ends when the browser is closed.
- A visitor count: one row per visit with the time. No addresses, no devices, no names.
- Server logs: IP addresses and the pages requested, kept a few weeks, to keep the site working and stop abuse.
- Purchases: the pixels, design and link chosen, the charity voted for, and the payment's reference at Stripe. No name, email or card details. Pixels, designs and links are public once locked; that is the point of the site.
- Email sent to the contact address, for as long as it takes to deal with it.
Payments
Stripe handles payments. Card details go to Stripe, not to this site; all that comes back is whether the payment went through. Stripe's privacy policy is at stripe.com/privacy.
Who else sees it
Cloudflare sits in front of the site and passes every request through, so it sees IP addresses and the pages requested; its policy is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy. Stripe and Cloudflare are American companies, so some of that is handled in the US. Beyond them, only the hosting service the server runs on. Nothing is sold or shared.
Rights
Anyone can ask what is kept about them, or have it corrected or deleted, at [email protected]. Locked designs stay on the globe, but a link or anything that identifies a person can be removed. Complaints can also go to the data protection authority where the person lives.
